One of the very first Bible verses I learned when I was a child was Psalm 188:24. It says, "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." I distinctly remember it in the form of a song, which was on a disc my mom would always play in the car. It's such a simply-worded verse, yet there is so much encouragement and hope in it. Today, I want to dig a little deeper into what it really looks like to rejoice in every day that you've been given.
"This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 188:24
Let's be honest, we all have those days where nothing is going as you thought it would and the entire day seems ruined. Or what about the days where you face hardship after hardship? Days like these are awful and it's easy to see just the negative. Negativity tends to cloud our perception of a day and overshadow the positive.
I don't know what these past few days have looked like for you, but whether it seems like it or not, each day is such a blessing. God has chosen to give you another day, to allow you to take in more breaths. There is importance in every day; otherwise, He wouldn't graciously gift it to you. The sunny days, the cloudy days, they're all a gift and they're all so significant.
Perhaps there genuinely has been nothing but trouble for a couple of days. Maybe multiple months were dark and dreary. I encourage you to reflect on those times and look at how the events that took place have affected you. I guarantee you that there was a lesson learned, a door opened, or a significant problem avoided.
Personally, I have walked through a season just like that. In the moment, I wondered what possible purpose could be hiding in my pain. After the pain came change, and after the change came blessings. There is no way I could have reached the place I am in now if it weren't for the hurt-filled days that caused me to evaluate certain aspects of my life. I'm rejoicing because the days I thought were pointless were actually preparing me for the wonderful days ahead.
Bland days should be celebrated too! Some days are neither good nor bad, but they're equally important. Sometimes we get so caught up in the everyday hustle and bustle of our modern lives that we forget to pause and appreciate all of the great things that are happening right before our very eyes. Pay attention to the details of chaotic days. There is so much going on everywhere, including inside your heart.
Next time you're doubting the presence of good in a bad day, know that God is working in you. He's shaping you, preparing you, and growing you. So rejoice! Rejoice because tomorrow is a new day. Rejoice because God has given you today for a reason. Rejoice because every day is a gift and there are no exceptions.
